Agricultural grade sodium nitrate, traditionally known as Chilean nitrate, is a fast-acting, high-purity nitrate nitrogen fertilizer. It provides crops with directly absorbable nitrate ions (NO₃⁻) and can supplement the beneficial sodium element. This product is a white or slightly yellowish crystal, readily soluble in water, and dissolves with an endothermic effect. Its physiological alkalinity property helps to improve acidic soil. It is particularly suitable for dryland farming and sodium-loving crops. It can quickly correct the symptoms of nitrogen deficiency in crops, promote growth, and increase yield and quality.

    Core Functions and Application Guidelines

    Crop nutrition and soil improvement

    • Fast-acting nitrogen supplementation: Nitrate ions can be directly and rapidly absorbed by crops without the need for transformation in the soil, making it particularly suitable for top dressing in low-temperature seasons and during rapid growth periods.
    • Supplement sodium nutrition: Sodium is a beneficial nutrient element for some crops. The application of sodium nitrate can provide sodium for sodium-loving crops such as sugar beets, radishes, celery, cotton and flax, thereby increasing their yield and quality.
    • Regulating soil acidity: Sodium nitrate is a physiologically alkaline fertilizer. When nitrate is absorbed by crops, the remaining sodium ions help neutralize soil acidity and improve acidic or neutral soil, but they are not suitable for saline-alkali land

    Applicable crops and application recommendations

    For root vegetables

    • such as sugar beets and radishes during their mid-growth period, top dressing should be applied by opening furrows or holes to increase the yield and sugar content of the tubers

    Cotton, flax

    • Top dressing from the bud stage to the flower bell stage improves fiber quality

Leafy vegetables (such as celery, spinach)

    • Applying it in several batches during the rapid growth period can promote leaf thickening and increase yield

Dryland grains such as corn and wheat

    • Topdressing from the jointing stage to the grain-filling stage quickly meets the nitrogen demand

    FAQ

Q1: What are the characteristics of agricultural-grade sodium nitrate compared with urea?

A: Sodium nitrate provides nitrate nitrogen, which takes effect much faster than the amide nitrogen of urea. It is particularly suitable for top dressing in low-temperature seasons and during the rapid growth period of crops. In addition, sodium nitrate contains sodium, which is beneficial to sodium-loving crops and can improve acidic soil, while the long-term use of urea may acidify the soil.

Q2: Why is sodium nitrate not suitable for use in saline-alkali land?

A: Sodium nitrate is a physiologically alkaline fertilizer. After crops absorb nitrate ions, sodium ions remain in the soil, enhancing soil alkalinity by. When used on saline-alkali land, it may aggravate the problem of soil salinization and is not conducive to the growth of crops

Q3: Can sodium nitrate be used in paddy fields?

A: Not recommended. Nitrate ions are not easily adsorbed by soil. Under waterlogged conditions in paddy fields, they tend to be lost with water and are prone to denitrification, causing nitrogen gas to volatilize and resulting in significant nitrogen loss and a decrease in fertilizer efficiency
